On the first day of Hari Raya, we went to 1Utama for shopping! Over there, the scene of the coastal market is depicted as a tribute to the hardworking fishermen. The whole ambience takes shoppers to the olden and simpler times of the past.

So, the theme is all about reunion.

“It is about the hardworking fishermen, who go out to sea to earn a living, coming back to the family.

“The whole thing ties up with the spirit of Hari Raya, where the family reunites for the celebration.

They wanted to capture everything and they tried to get items as close as possible to the 30s and 40s era.

#4 A sprinkling of seashells, fishing nets, mangrove trees, oil-lamps and sand.


#5 The fishmonger's hut, complete with an old Vespa scooter.


#6 A band playing traditional Malay music.


#7 The Lower Ground Floor is decorated as a traditional port for fishing, bartering and trade, with life-size sampans doubling as kiosks perfectly placed.


#8 The water market concept is used for tenants' booths, with traders selling their goods in wooden models of boats.

The celebrations would not be complete without the presence of


#9 the ketupat and lemang, glutinous rice cooked in bamboo,


#10 its accompanying rendang, a spicy and rich beef or chicken dish. Smileys
We bought some ketupat and rendang but I ate WAY too much (YUMMY!) and I farted non-stop! Smileys
